John Zorn - Naked City

John Zorn - Naked City
Genre: Experimental, Jazz

Just recently got into this guy again. John Zorn is a saxophonist from new york who's been around for quite a while. This album was released in '89. If you are new to jazz or new to free jazz I highly recommend this album. Some songs are smooth and more 'traditional' to what you think jazz will be and others remind me of music from the old school batman series... only on acid. For example, listen to 'you will be shot' and try not to picture adam west tripping out. Gee willikers, batman

Whitehouse - Bird Seed

Whitehouse - Bird Seed
Genre: Experimental, Industrial, Spoken Word, Noise

Just found this 10 minutes ago and immediately thought of this blog. The title track is 14 minutes of news clippings from what I assume were kidnapping and murder stories. Heartbreaking accounts of what happened in multiple languages. For that reason alone I would get the album. The rest of it is a mixture of Suicide-esque beats with an angry british man yelling verse over top of it all. I would love to see these guys live.

Mercury Rev - Deserter's Songs

Mercury Rev- Deserter's Songs
Genre: Alternative Pop, Psychedelic, Post pop (Pretty sure I made that up)

So I've been whoring this band out for a while now and I figured this is a faceblog worthy band. Mercury Rev (from new york, in case you wanted to know) released this fabulous album in 1998. Basically it's pop music that's incredibly sophisticated and is incredibly ahead of its time. I also enjoy the use of the theremin since I'm a theremin player myself. You'll like this if you're into neat instrumentation and amazing melodies. The first track "holes" is a 10/10 for me and I've been listening to it non stop now.

Blackbird Raum - Swidden

For fans of banjo-bouzouki-washboard-accordion-mandolin-yelling-facial hair-pirate-gypsy-folk-anarcho-punk. I know you dig it! Seriously though I fell in love with this sound the day I heard it. I'm a slut for this band. You'll either love it or hate it.

coachwhips - bangers vs. fuckers

Coachwhips - Bangers vs. fuckers
genre: power rock, rockabilly, 2 step, i really don't know what to classify this

Ok so this is a San Fransisco noise trio. Think old school rock and roll riffs sped up by a lot with distorted, almost megaphone vocals over top. Throw in some power organ and you have coachwhips. A really solid album and perfect driving music. Get this is you're feeling energetic. Andy I know you're reading this. Get this.
